She always get´s the last laugh. Madonna has taken Danish fans and media by complete surprise. Media outlets have been inundated with the sudden announcement of a forthcoming tour and then confirmation of a show in Copenhagen on July 2nd.
Add to boot the fact that the tickets are on sale like RIGHT NOW!

I scored a ticket via ICON yesterday afternoon, but the paper; Metro Xpress are saying that ticket sales started around noon and then were suddenly shut down by 3 pm. The whole thing did seem awfully rushed. When I bought my ticket there was still no concert stadium layout, so I chanced it.

Got myself a ticket to the Golden ~~Shower~~ circle area yesterday afternoon via Icon. There was no seat map layout yet so I have no idea where I´m going to be.

I was literally standing in front of Madonna during the Sticky & Sweet show 3 years ago.
Not so keen that Madonna is performing at the Parken stadium again (sound is god awful there) but I´m really looking forward to seeing her in Copenhagen once more. This will be her third stop in Denmark within 6 years. I´m still sour over the Blond Ambition cancellation 22 years ago and that the Confession show was held in a field in Horsens over in Jutland but hey life is too short to be bitter and if Madonna is too short to be bitter...eh, not sure where I´m going with this. It must be the diet coke speaking.

But I´d love to see Madonna once more during this tour and I´m thinking about getting tickets for the Lisbon show, possibly Berlin or Istanbul - a city I haven´t been too in many many years.

Den anden gode nyhed er, at I forhold til hendes sidste besøg tilbage i 2009, er det en noget friskere Madonna vi kommer til at se i København idet hun kun er lige i start fasen af sin koncert turné på i juli måned. Om hun skal optræde flere aftener i rap er ikke oplyst men Göteborg står på til den 4.juli, i så fald skal det være før den 2.juli 2012.

Madonna made a fabulous entrance last night at the Super Bowl worthy of a Queen. She launched into "Vogue as she strode into battle. Once she reached the main stage she continued on with "Music", "Gimme all your luvin" and "Like A Prayer". The spectacle was a visual masterpiece and Madonna proved in the brief 12 minutes that she is the mistress of the universe when it comes to putting on a show. Much of the choreography was borrowed from her "Re-Invention" and "Sticky and Sweet" tour, I really do wish she would collaborate with someone else than Jamie King. Judging by the You Tube clip the sound was not great, neither was the camera work, we rarely got any close up´s making much of what was going on stage pointless. Madonna had pulled a hamstring and that effected her balance, the heels didn´t help and it made some of her footwork comical. It looked like the LED stage surface was to impossible to dance on. Certainly "Vogue" was the high point as was the show closer "Like A Prayer". I really enjoyed the LMFAO moment in "Music" and almost wished it would have lasted longer. Loved seeing her shuffle and she looked like she really really enjoyed herself up there. As for "Gimme all your luvin", I just thought that there would be of a wow factor than there was considering it was the lead of her new album. I was surprised that she used of the re-invention version of Vogue. The Sticky & Sweet - 4minutes version would have made more sense especially if you had used the "Glee" horn version at least by the time she reached the main stage. Hmmm lost opportunity there me thinks. Madonna looked gorgeous and came across as very happy and relaxed. Clearly she is at a better place now and I found that the most uplifting of all. Her positivity and energy bounced off the stage and right into the stadium. The joy was palpable. Madonna know´s how to throw a party. Overall though the short show has whetted my appetite for her world tour commencing end of May. There is a rumour she´ll be performing in Denmark in Horsens on June 23th.

At Taycross Zoo, England Bugsy the 9 year-old French bulldog has traditionally looked after the zoo's abandoned animals. His latest charge is Malone a 6 year-old orangutan abandoned by his mother. Malone will join the other orangutans when he's a little older. For now though he seems to be in safe hands. Or rather, safe paws.

She was self-possessed and uninhibited. She dressed up for the party, and she took it all off for the after-party.

Her impact wasn’t limited to gay men. Madonna boldly toyed with transgender imagery on a grand stage: She co-opted the Harlem drag balls for the “Vogue” video, she featured trans people and cross-dressers of all stripes in her banned “Justify My Love” video, and her coffee-table tome, Sex, posited couples in all sorts of configurations. Her high profile are-they-or-aren’t-they friendships with such queer women as Sandra Bernhard, Rosie O’Donnell, and Ingrid Casares as well as her promotion of bisexual artists like Meshell Ndegeocello helped to take queer sensibility into the mainstream.

In the midst of the AIDS crisis, when fear was rampant and gay men were dying at a horrifying rate, Madonna was among the first to take a stand, to say, as she did in the tour documentary Truth or Dare, that it’s OK to be a gay man who is openly sexual.

“That it’s OK to be gay, period,” Madonna says emphatically before launching into an impassioned recounting of her experience of the AIDS onslaught. “I was extremely affected by it. I remember lying on a bed with a friend of mine who was a musician, and he had been diagnosed with this kind of cancer, but nobody knew what it was. He was this beautiful man, and I watched him kind of waste away, and then another gay friend, and then another gay friend, and then another gay friend. They were all artists and all truly special and dear to me.”

In a recent televised interviewed dressed as Henry the 8th sans feather hat he continued insulting Madonna by insinuating that she´ll lip-sync her way through the Superbowl halftime.

Well she sang live at her last non tour performances for the Live Earth broadcast in 2007 and at the Live 8 in 2005. Anyone with normal hearing could hear it was LIVE.

Perhaps she should be flattered, it is obviously beyond his comprehension that you can move around on stage and sing at the same time. It´s just bloody hard work Sir!

When Elton John took to the stage with Eminem in 2001 he inadvertently legitimized homophobia in the music industry but also in society at large. Discussion of homophobia was effectively shut down and trivialized.
Four years later George Bush´s re-election campaign largely ran on homophobia. In 2008 California law was overturned by proposition 8 and LGBT´s were suddenly stripped of their marriage rights and returned to their 2nd class citizenry.
Worse still many states across The United States amended their constitutions and went even further not only banning marriage but also civil partnerships. Yet this was year the year Elton chose to come out and not give his support for same sex marriage. He doesn´t believe in it?!
He never cared to explain why, but the LGBT community shook their heads.
It´s rather ironic he chose a civil partnership with David Furnish and then have a child. So what part of marriage for gays doesn´t he believe in? He performed at anti-gay Rush Limbaugh´s wedding in 2010 and stayed silent when Eminem went on to insult Elton´s friend Lady Gaga with a transphobic remark last year.Being a LGBT kid is almost impossible in schools across America now and many are driven to suicide by physical violence and bullying. I wish Elton John would have been more political and out spoken sooner.

He has had a change of heart (no pun intended) recently but the question remains, what took him so long. When your rich and shielded from the harshness of the world you don´t need to worry about trivial issue´s like being fired just because you happen to be a LGBT person, being excluded from your community just because you are LGBT and don´t fit in with religious values, or worry about the benefits that heterosexuals automatically get when the sh*t hits the fan.
And yet he is capable to speak loud and queer over the nominations at the Golden Globes. Talk about trivial. And to attack a peer who was one of the few stars in the day that supported AIDS causes, raised awareness and encouraged Safe Sex way before it became politically correct and before Elton had the courage to came out of the closet. Madonna aligned herself with LGBT´s back in a time when it could have had major implications to her career. Indeed much of the criticism aimed at Madonna during her career has had a homophobic undercurrent. No mainstream American artist had the guts to do what she did in the 80´s and 90´s when America was in the grip of AIDS and gay panic. This what at a time when Elton had married a woman to deflect those rumors and George Micheal was firmly closeted. Okay you don´t like her music or her live shows, fair enough but she isn´t the enemy here.
She went on stage during her tour in California after the Prop8 fiasco and tried to comfort her audience and encouraging them be positive to fight on, things will change. Similarly she went on Ellen in 2010 to talk about the bullying and suicide´s of gay teens. Where was Elton´s voice and pocket book in all this? He´s no Kathy Griffin that´s for certain.
He strikes me as being ambivalent about himself and out of touch with reality for the majority of LGBT´s. It would be great if he would support shelters for homeless LGBT´s, suicide prevention and educational tools for parents and schools and less time aiming at our allies. If Lady Gaga can do it why can´t he?

Apparently I´m the only fan one who is uneasy about the prospect of Madonna performing at a conservative sporting event (Super Bowl) being held in a conservative state? Particularly a State which is working hard to deny it´s citizens the right to marry. Where 300 of it´s residents had enough time on their hands to give Madonna this friendly welcome during her stay there some 20 years ago:

After her comments about how dull the place was, 300 residents reacted by lying down in the town´s biggest carpark to spell out the word MADONNA with a circle around it and a stroke through that they declared it a Madonna-free zone. Others lined up to get their own back for her unkind words.

Local Chamber of Commerce boss Turk Walter JNR, announced that if Madonna didn´t like Evansville, "it has to be a great place. We can definitely turn this into a positive thing" he continued, swankily.

Cut to twenty years later and the state is hemorrhaging jobs to China at a rate that no amount of transfussions can remedy. And there´s no hope in hell of replacing these jobs by attracting knowledge and creative based industries to the state, especially when lawmakers are about to enshrine discrimination through an ammendment to Indiana´s constitution. Several Indiana businesses, such as pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly and Co. and engine-maker Cummins Inc., have argued that the ban, and its impact on domestic partnership benefits, would make it tougher to draw top talent to the state.

Is Madonna simply a glutton for punishment, suffering from a temporary bout of amnesia perhaps, does she have a secret penchant for shoulder pads or is she just very eager to promote her latest album to the widest audience possible? She feels honoured for being invited to perform at the Super Bowl halftime show. Honoured though...why?

Synopsis:
When Dennis, an introvert bodybuilder, invites a local girl out on a date his mother is hurt and disappointed. Despite the pressure she puts on him to cancel the date, Dennis ventures into a night that he will never forget.
We all know that some of these fellas are overcompensation for something and the issue´s behind can be complex. The moral of this story is don´t judge the boy by his body builder cover, because inside there may be a fleur delicate, trapped deep within the hulk and just screaming to get out.

It´s a poignant story and I might think a bit differently about the impossibly built men whom huff, puff and almost scream down the gym. The short film has been selected for this years Sundance and has over 3 million hits on You Tube.

However the director has made a full movie (10 timer til paradis) since the short´s release on You Tube two years ago and I´m looking forward to it´s premiere which should be soon. Trailer below.

I popped in to see fashion designer Peter Jensen´s "five muses" reterospective at the Designmusuem in Copenhagen last fall. There´s quite a buzz about Peter, who graduated from St. Martin´s back in 1999 and has already created a name for himself on the global stage. Check out his website is here.
I like his fun, playfull and whimsical style. My favourite part of the collection are the traditional Greenland inspired outfits that are paired with the contemporary. There is irony and a down to earth feeling in many of the pieces.

This derelict building on the corner of Amager-brogade and Søren Norby´s used to house several shops.
I found this hand painted sign on the wall for shoe polish, brushes, lace etc. I´m guessing that it´s 1930´s but it could be earlier. The give way is the spelling; SNØRREBAAND - which is now SNØRREBÅND and the phone number which must have required an operator/switch board to get through to them.
AMG 3131 (area code Amager). Really chuffed that I managed to snap this before it´s wiped away from al eternity.

I was flicking through Metro Express on the Metro on my early morning commute and I noticed they had a piece on "Ansiktet" (The Face) a swedish band who are gaining interest on Danish radio.

The video to their new song Äckligt (revolting) is anything but. Sensual guys in loincloths, cruxifictions and the Last Supper (you know before the group orgy), it´s a cool video.

Blueberry Cupcake

I decided to make some cupcake´s for work before my vacation to Lisbon. It´s sort of a tradition there, we each bring cake before we go on vacation preferably homemeade.

I had never tried baking cupcakes however, but I found the reciepe here to be easy enough to follow for a first timer like myself. I opted for fruity flavoured blueberry filled and frosted.
The result were pretty good, admittedly the presentation good have been better. Hauling around a large tray of cupcakes on public transport was always going to be a precarious. But they were yummy and everyone praised them. I did go overboard with the blueberry´s and I had to scrape some of the frosting off. I didn´t want to be accused of giving my co-workers a coronary. Next time I try out a lemon flavoured cupcakes perhaps with some low fat cream cheese instead of butter frosting.

Receipe here

Batter/dough
125 g butter.
2 eggs.
125 g flour.
125 grams of demerara sugar.
1 tsp. baking powder.
Grains from a vanilla pod.
½ tsp. of salt.
½ cup whole milk.

Melt butter, add milk and whisk the eggs one at a time • Mix flour, salt, vanilla, sugar and baking powder in another bowl. Pour the liquid in a little at a time and stir until dough is smooth and add the desired flavor (blueberry´s for instance).

Pour batter into muffin- forms and bake for 15-20 minutes at 200 degrees.

FROSTING
Basic Recipe:
250 g salted butter (Lurpak)
250 g Icing sugar
A vanilla pod

A little lemon juice
Flavors:
100 g of blended fruit, for example
strawberries, blueberries or raspberries. or
a little orange juice and peel. or a little
coffee.

Allow the butter to room temperature, add the vanila, then sift the icing sugar into the mix. Whisk until no frost is white, fluffy and foamy. Add the lemon juice and the desired flavors. Spread the frosting on top of the cup cake.

Found this wonderful clock depicting Amager´s geography and landmarks before the reclamation from the sea to the east and west of the island. I like the cute silver propeller aeroplane at 3 o´clock heading towards Kastrup Airport which would eventually become one of Europe´s largest. Also the traditional fishing boat at 6 o´clock - fishing played a vital role for towns like Kastrup and Dragør. I think the clock must be pre WWII. It can be seen hanging at the Sønderbro Pharmacy on Amagerbrogade.

This is the second time this track get´s an outing on this blog, but I love it so much so what the heck. Beside´s it´s an accoustic choir version so it´s not a re-post so there. "It was my club first" is a melancholic track that I think most former clubbers over the age of 25 can identify with. When your second home is suddenly invaded by a new and younger crowd and it´s suddenly all about them. Trampling all over your memories and what you thought belonged to you.
I have connection with Rosa Lux (the lady with hat), she used to DJ at PAN - once Europe´s Biggest Gay club and my hang out every weekend. When Britney Spears visited Copenhagen in 2004 she went clubbing at PAN and I noticed from the press shot´s that she had parked her drunken self at my favourite spot right by the staircase.

Sometimes it´s perhaps best that disco´s only have a certain lifespan.

ABC´s Cynthia McFadden delves right in with the news anchor´s 4th Madonna meeting.
Brace yourself though, you´ll need a wolly jumper and mug of hot cocoa, because Madonna gives her best Snow Queen impersonation for Cynthia this time round.
Madonna did indeed look regal, everything about her was flawless. Her muse Wallice Simpson an even greater perfectionist would definately have approved. The subjects were as follows: Brahim, The Bowl, Hitler, Wallice, Edward, Lola, Gaga, Cooking and ~~fucking~~ SEX (The book), kissing the Minge-Naj(and she definately liked it)and the new Lotsa de Casha deal.
Cudos to Cynthia for bringing up Wallice and Edward´s meeting with Hitler (I´m not buying Madonna´s explanation) and cudos for Madonna for telling Cynthia to back off from the misogynistic and ageist line of questioning. She wouldn´t have dared if it had been Macca or Steven Tyler.

A new campaign by the Ministry of Education to stamp out truancy in Danish schools, has resulted in this hilarious parody of Rasmus Seebach´s hit "Lidt i 5". Comedian Rasmus Bjerg is terrific in this.
Perhaps if they banned dodgeball and paper mache altogether the tide would turn. Just a suggestion.

Love this wintery track by Oh No ONO who sadly had their studio robbed for Dkr.500.000 (USD 100.000) worth of equipment and the insurance will only cover a measly one fifth of the cost. Edina Monsoon is having a nightmare, in it a murder (she´s the victim)is being investigated by Sofie Gråbøl from The Killing (Forbrydelsen). She also thinks that she is fluent in Danish.

Jennifer, Joanna, Julia, June and Jane are back with a vengance. The offbeat and at times surrealist non sitcom sitcom is back. In this atmosphere of doom and gloom and a global recession, a show about carté blanche hedonism seems like tonic. Much like it was in 1992 when political correctness was suffocating.

Yes verything Ab Fab post millenium has paled in comparison to the original series but is still a welcome friend imho. The latest episode "Identity" was the closest to the orginal series in terms of edge and comedy. Probably because it focused on the three main characters and stayed within the familar milleu - the house.

Jennifer Saunders speaking danish (it sounded like Copenhagener on a binge) had me in stitches, not so funny though when you are litterally covered with stitches.

On the subject of stitching, poor old good as gold, over sensible and recently sprung out of the slammer Saffy is royally sticthed up by her fromer prison inmate who is owed major drug money by multiple addicted Patsy.
Things turn nasty when Saffy is threatened and forced to subjugate herself in order to save the chemical pealed skins of her self-obsessed mother Edina and gal pal Patsy. Meanwhile Edina´s box set of the hit danish show "The Killing" seeps into her subconcious and Sofie Gråbøl appears before her. The now murdered famous celebrity PR thinks she´s fluent in Danish but really like her Buddhist chantings it´s jibberish.

Run is "Gambler" 2.0, this unreleased demo from the "Music" album sessions saw the light of the day in 2011. I love this track, it´s very similar to "Amazing", one of the tracks on "Music" that should have been the third single instead of "What it feels like for a girl".

Mama superior is finally fed up with the leaks though. Apparently she´s launching an inquisition of her own, it is said that she that she will resort to any method possible to extract the truth. Guy Ritchie´s "films" and Mariah Carey´s ´records on a loop would make me crack - yup I did it Dita Dearest!!! I would confess to anything, well wouldn´t you?
