Medellín Meddling

Madonna´s hypnotic and genius new single Medellín is cruelly meddling with the onset of my midlife crisis withdrawal symptoms, my FOMA and my desperate need for a fortnight somewhere under a palm tree. Forget La Isla Bonita, Who´s That Girl, Be careful with my Heart, Spanish Eyes, Spanish Lesson and the myriad of other Latin themed songs Madonna has dished up. Medellín  triumphs over all of them and to such a degree that it has me searching for flights on Momondo.com to a destination where I too can sip "champagne in the rain". Thinking more Kalamata than Kamchatka.

It took three to four listens before I was hooked and I found myself cha-cha-ing on Amager Beach long before the release of her wonderfully surrealist accompanying video.
Madonna, Madam X,  Mirwais, Maluma and Medellín are magical ingredients.

While the song has hit the Billboard number 1 on the latin charts as well as going to number one on the Itunes chart across South America, East and Southern Europe there is still no radio play on the BBC. While Madonna has been pretty much blacklisted from radio since the provocative American Life in 2003, however some of the more responsible media outlets have begun to take notice and are calling out the likes of the BBC for their blatant hypocrisy, sexism and ageism. Madonna and her fans have accepted this peculiar form of censorship long ago, but it is surprising to see even right wing media are reporting it.

While Medellín might not be Madonna´s finest work to date, it certainly would be considered very au courant and totally radio airplay friendly - if it had another artist name attached to it which is absurd considering how many Madonna songs have been at the top of their charts.

Madonna has been breaking down barriers for women and minorities, since she  first entered the entertainment industry in late 1982. It looks as if she is continuing the fight for gender equality at the age of 60. Madonna is not only contributing with fresh sounding music but is more culturally relevant than she has been since the release of Erotica back in 1992 in the then morally repressed and AIDS panicking early 1990´s.

Welcome back Madam X/ Madonna, we´ve missed ya - you´re breath of fresh air as always.
