IKEA and the art rebels

Commerce and art can be strange bedfellows. Nevertheless the ubequitos Copenhagen based artist collective ArtRebels, have recently teamed up with the flatpack furniture company; IKEA for a unique collaboration.

Together they have come up with a cool one-off collection called "BRAAKIG" (which means disorderly or rowdy in inter-scandi lingo).
But there is nothing rowdy with the cool home decor designs that they have come up with.
I particularly liked their harlequin tray (see photo above) which cost DKK 29. But the ArtRebel design can be found in everything from tableware to bed linen. There are copper painted trestle´s and a golden table lamp, both are a revamp of  existing IKEA item´s. They also provide some DIY tips via a link where you can lean about personalizing the IKEA you already have.
The ArtRebel collection has that maker style look about it which is very trendy at the moment. It´s a clever concept that will appeal to a younger demographic, who may not have access to workshop´s, tools, time or  ability to make something similar.

Thanks to the infamous Banksy and Mr.Brainwash, Street Art moved from the street and into the gallery´s. It has become mainstreamed and accessible for the masses. It has trickled down into consumerist flatpacked furniture. Street art has moved into IKEA.
